What are donor rules?
- Donor rules are rules created to determine if a donor is or is not eligible for a particular program
- Donor rules are required for a proposal type to work
- If a donor is not eligible for a proposal type many of the functions of that proposal type will be hidden from the donor
- Donors can become ineligible and any point in time and each page load validates their eligibility
Donor Rules Setup is based on program requirements for each Grantmaker. An administrator can modify donor rules by going to Admin › Employee Giving Proposal Types › Application Setup -> Rules -> Donor Rules:
Donor Rules are used for allowing or disallowing the employee population access to a particular program.
This can include those are are "never eligible": Examples are, is the employee an executive/board member or full time? Have they been more employed 6 months?
This can also include those that have met their match limits: Examples are "match limit 5k for the program"
This controls the visibility of the Organization Search portlet:
- Must have at least one Donor Rule to allow for the "Organization Search" portlet to appear.
- If a user does not meet eligibility, then the "Organization Search" does not appear.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
There can only be one set of global rules unless you can segment the rules with criteria, eg. "These global rules apply to these types of employees, and these global rules apply to those types of employees."
- Donor rules are not evaluated when Event Managers manage rosters (therefore things like transaction limits can get bypassed by Event Managers taking actions)
Applies to both Gift Rules & Donor Rules
- Everything is in the "base currency", therefore limits, etc must be in the base current (usually USD).
- If there is custom criteria, the criteria area will say "This criteria is not configured to display. Please contact your CyberGrants Administrator."
- You do not need an ineligible rule, if everyone and everything is eligible. If that is not the case, you must have an eligible & ineligible rule.
- Criteria are always evaluated in order from most criteria to least.
Why is there a Total Match Limit in both Gift Rule & Donor Rule?
- If you're going to have a Donor Rule Match Limit, must there always be a Gift Rule Match Limit, in order to limit the match amount created upon saving a gift. (in that case, making the values identical)
- This also allows for something more complicated like: Per application the match amount couldn't be more than $500, but the allowance for the program is $10,000.
