The National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities (NTEE) system is maintained by the National Center for Charitable Statistics to classify US-based nonprofit organizations. This information is also included on the IRS Business Master File that is imported regularly into CyberGrants. Incorporating NTEE codes into your programs will introduce a second dimension to how you automatically determine an organization's eligibility. If incorporated, they complement IRS subsections so that now a potential organization must have both a supported tax status as well as an acceptable NTEE organization type to be considered eligible for the program. Use of NTEE codes can prevent unnecessary confusion and frustration for your donors and return valuable time to administrators.
This optional configuration is available within each of your Employee Giving Proposal Types in the Donor Setup > Organization Search > NTEE Codes section. You can choose to allow an entire major group, or only allow certain codes within a group. These codes will then be used along with tax status to automatically determine an organization's status as either Approved (eligible) or Pending (ineligible/undetermined).
Organizations whose tax source is the IRS Business Master File will have NTEE code imported and visible in the "Qualification Information" area of the Nomination and Organization records. While about 70% of organizations from the IRS have an NTEE code associated with it, those that do not can still go through the nomination process to have a manual NTEE code set. The NTEE group, NTEE code, and NTEE description are also available as a reporting field for both the nomination and organization records.
Configuration Notes:
- If you select one NTEE code, then all organizations MUST have that NTEE code to be approved
- If an organization does not have them, then they MUST go through nomination and manual approval, there is no "or else if has no NTEE code then let through"
