Redirection Preferences

  • Does the client have to choose a default organization?
    • Yes, even if they elect for donors choice for that proposal type, in the event that a donor does not respond, the gifts will go to the default organization.
  • Can donor redirect to multiple orgs?
    • No, donor can select only a single org.
  • Can the default org be different based on different donor attributes?
    • It cannot, it has to be the same organization. It is configured at the proposal type level so all gifts for that proposal type, will have the same default organization selected.
  • Can a client only have a certain selection of orgs for donors to choose from when picking a new org?
    • Unfortunately not. If donors choice is enabled, the donor is brought to an organization search. The only orgs that will appear are ones that are DAF eligible tax statuses that are Approved for the proposal type. There is also not the ability to nominate.
  • What are the acceptable DAF tax statuses?
    • 170(B)(1)(a)(i)
      170(B)(1)(a)(ii)
      170(B)(1)(a)(iii)
      170(B)(1)(a)(iv)
      170(B)(1)(a)(v)
      170(B)(1)(a)(vi)
      509(A)(2)
      NCES Public School
      NCES School District
  • What if proposal type has a custom org search or featured orgs only?
    • The client can either use donor choice with DAF already approved orgs in the org search or the client can just have default as the option thus not having the donor select.
  • Is it possible to change the default organization after it has already been selected?
    • Yes, please reach out to help@cybergrants.comin order to have the default changed.  This will only go into place for new redirections going forward.

Timeline

  • How/When is redirection initiated?
    • Once an organization is rejected.

Organization rejection could be on the default level (ex. org closed or no longer accepting funds) or for specific proposal types. Majority of rejections will occur on the default level; however, if the organization is ineligible only for certain programs, then rejection will occur for only specific proposal types. Rejection on default level will reject the organization for all proposal types for that client.

  • When will a record be redirected?
    • Organizations are reviewed on a monthly basis for the following 3 reasons:
      1. Org has a stale dated check
      2. Org has a returned check
      3. Org has open gifts that are CGDS Gift Batch Ineligible

The organization is first reviewed by the organization vetting team in order to see if we can make the organization in good standing (valid tax status, eligible for the proposal type and has up to date address information). If it is in good standing, we will update accordingly and create a reissue or process a payment for the first time (if it has never been paid out to before). If the organization is revoked, closed or we are unable to verify the organization as an eligible charity, we will reject the organization. That process then initiates a redirection. Please see response to question above for additional information on the process.

  • How do we initiate redirection if we learn that an org is closed?
    • Reject the org and then the redirection process will kick off in the nightly job.
  • If a pledge/payment has been initiated for redirection and the org is now good, can the redirection be stopped?
    • Unfortunately not. Once a redirection is initiated, we do not have a means to intervene.
  • What do we do with gifts that have not been paid or redirected?
    • We review organizations that are classified as CGDS Gift Batch ineligible on a monthly basis to determine if we can make the organization in good standing for payout, or else we reject the organization and the redirection process kicks off. Please see the response to "When will a record be redirected?" and "When can a record be redirected if we know the org is bad?"
  • How long does a donor have to respond?
    • Typically 10 days, although some clients allow for more time.

Record updates

  • What is the old and new status of the gifts after redirection occurs?
    • The old gifts are updated to canceled. The new gifts carry forward the disposition of the original gift where applicable.

Note: Gifts with ineligible dispositions such as “Rejected” are excluded from redirection.

  • How can I tell if a payment was redirected?
    • The payment is in void status and the request is updated to Canceled.
  • How do I know we are waiting for the donor's selection of a new org?
    • The gifts will be in Pending Redirection status.

Emails

  • Which emails get sent to donors?
    • 96801- initial email to donor asking them to login to profile and select new organization
    • 96802- reminder email to donor asking them to select new organization
    • 96803- only goes to donor after number of days to respond passes and gifts go to default org in the event that the donor does not respond
    • 96804- goes to the donor once they select a new organization
  • When does the donor get emailed?
    • After the organization is rejected, the records eligible for redirection at that point in time gets queued up. For any records (ie. payments) that need to be voided, these records that need to be voided are sent to the bank. After the bank sends the void confirmation to CG, the redirection process checks for any additional records (ie. payroll deduction records from payroll feedback files processed) created against the rejected org since the initial record queue up. These additional records, if any, along with the records that were initially queued up, are processed through redirection - this is the initiation of the redirection of the records.

Once redirection is initiated, the donor receives their first email (email_event_id=96801) in the nightly job. If the donor does not respond after 5 days, they will receive a reminder email (email_event_id=96802). Once a donor selects a new org, they receive a confirmation email (email_event_id=96804). If they do not respond after 10 days, the donor receives (email_event_id=96803) and their gifts go to the default organization.

    • If the configuration is only for DEFAULT and NOT donors choice, the donor will not receive any emails.
  • When does the follow up reminder email get sent to the donor?
    • Typically after 5 days, although some clients have a different time frame configured.
  • Where can I find the donor emails in the audit trail?
    • Unfortunately they are not available in the audit trail as the redirection can be tied to more than one gift

Reporting

  • What can I report on with redirection?
    • You can see the new gift, new pledge, new payment where the redirection was initiated from. When gifts are pending donor's selection of a new org, the gifts are in Pending Redirection status. If the gift has already been redirected, the gifts are in canceled status. Old bad payments are voided and the request is canceled. You will not be able to do a side by side comparison of old vs new gift, just see the old gift id and old pledge id. These fields are all available in ad hoc reports.
  • Can I report on which gifts went to default and which gifts the donor selected the new org?
    • You can search in ad hoc reports by redirected from gift id has a value and then display the org information. If the org is the default organization, you can make the assumption that the gift went to the default org. It is also possible that the donor selected the default organization. If the org is an org than than the default, you know that the donor made a selection on their own choice.
