The Multi-Currency Extension is a pre-configured enhancement to Bonterra's CyberGrants platform designed to support multinational organizations by enabling giving and grantmaking transactions in local currencies.
This feature ensures that employees, donors, and administrators can engage with the platform in the currency most relevant to their location, while still providing a consistent base currency for program tracking and reporting.
Core functionality
- Donors can submit transactions in local currency, with the system automatically converting and storing both the local and base currency values.
- Currency rates can be based on CyberGrants’ floating standard rate or static annual rates provided by the customer.
Min/Max reference table
A centralized Min/Max reference table defines proposal-specific rules by currency. Fields in this table include:
- Proposal Type ID
- Minimum Amount
- Match Limit
- Match Multiplier
- Currency Code
- Year
- Employee Group
- Minimum Hours
- Hour Limit
Multi-currency match function
The match function checks donor eligibility by identifying existing matches (excluding rejected or cancelled ones), summing their total, and comparing it against the configured limit.
- A full match is created if the donor’s balance allows for the entire requested amount to be matched.
- A partial match is created if the full amount cannot be matched due to an insufficient balance.
- If no balance remains, a match is prevented, and the donor is alerted.
- If the donor’s balance is $0 or the amount is below the defined minimum, submission is prevented, and an appropriate message is displayed.
- Each match record includes values in both the local currency and the base currency.
Customizable portlets
Two customizable portlets provide detailed views of balances and transaction summaries in both local and base currency formats:
- Donor local currency balance portlet - Displays the donor’s matching gift limit and remaining balance in local currency, alongside the base currency equivalent. It reflects the donor's current currency as supplied in the Human Resources (HR) file.
- Proposal type local currency balance portlet - Presents match limits, remaining balances, and transaction summaries by proposal type. Each row includes the number of transactions and total matched amounts in both local and base currencies.
Dollars for Doers support
The extension also supports the Dollars for Doers program logic, including:
- Program balance - The donor’s remaining monetary match allowance for the program year.
- Available log hours - Approved hours logged by the donor that have not yet been redeemed.
- Minimum hours - The minimum number of hours a donor must have logged to redeem a Dollars for Doers grant.
- Hour limit - The maximum number of hours a donor can redeem in a single program year.
- Hours redeemed - The total number of hours the donor has already redeemed.
- Hour conversion rate - The conversion rate used to translate volunteer hours into a monetary match amount.
