The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) filter for Organization Searches prevents all engagement, including grants, donations, and matches, with organizations identified as domestic hate groups by SPLC. It is applied at the Grantmaker level and cannot be changed per proposal type. The SPLC annually updates the list of identified organizations.
When the filter is applied, organizations flagged as hate groups by the SPLC will not be returned in the Organization Search.
The filter only prevents new submissions; existing active gifts, including recurring payroll deductions, credit card donations, and corresponding matches, will continue to be processed even if an organization is later added to the SPLC list. Nominations of organizations on the SPLC list will be blocked, as well.

When Should I Use the SPLC Filter?
When activated, the filter eliminates the possibility that a client can give their company or employee funds to an organization on the SPLC. If you do not want donors to engage with organizations that have been identified as hate groups by the Southern Poverty Law Center, the filter should be activated. Note: An internal alert will also appear for those flagged organizations.
