The Life Sciences Functionality Extension is a powerful enhancement to Bonterra's CyberGrants platform, purpose-built for healthcare and pharmaceutical organizations managing patient access and assistance programs.
It equips administrators with the tools to streamline the submission and processing of medication requests, adapt user registration for healthcare professionals, and track payment statuses efficiently.
Core functionality
This extension modifies and augments the external user interface and administrative tools in the following ways:
Resupply Request portlet
This custom portlet displays a list of both initial and resupply medication requests. Unlike standard portlets, which use hardcoded columns, this version includes meaningful, program-specific data fields:
- Proposal Type
- Request ID
- Application Date
- Application Status
- Shipped Date
- Drug
- Patient Gender
- Patient Date of Birth
- Initiate the Resupply action link

This setup helps healthcare professionals (HCPs) quickly locate patient records and begin new resupply requests directly from the portlet.
Resupply function
Once a user clicks Initiate Resupply, the system triggers two key functions:
- Conditional Display – The link to initiate a resupply appears only when specific pre-defined criteria are met.
- Field Stamping – Certain read-only fields (e.g., patient demographics, drug type) from the initial request automatically carry over to the resupply form. This ensures consistency and protects against manual errors.
Custom registration page
The registration page can be modified to reflect HCP-focused terminology. Common adjustments include:
- Changing “Organization Name” to “Physician Name”
- Changing “Organization Country” to “Physician Country”
These changes improve clarity and usability for healthcare providers who are not part of a traditional nonprofit or corporate structure.
Payment sub-status
The extension also enables the automation of payment sub-status updates.
For example, when a payment status changes to “Paid,” a sub-status such as “Paid” can appear prominently at the top of the request page. This allows for real-time tracking and improved transparency for administrators and program users alike.
