Snowflake's data-sharing feature offers a secure and efficient way to share your organization's data with authorized parties.
Proceed as follows to understand the scope and details of Snowflake's data-sharing capabilities, which include the types of data that can be shared, such as standard and custom fields, as well as the exceptions and limitations of the data-sharing offering.
Step 1: Understand the Included Standard Fields
Our existing Insights Snowflake data-sharing feature includes over 500 standard fields across Grants, Giving, and Volunteering data in addition to all of the customer’s custom fields.
Step 2: Identify Excluded Standard Field Types
While the data-sharing feature includes a vast number of standard fields related to both Grants and Employee Engagement, there are certain exceptions where specific field types are excluded.
The following standard field types are NOT included in data sharing:
- Long Paragraph Fields (CLOB - Field Type ID 12).
- File Attachment Fields (BLOB - Field Type ID 7).
- HR Donor Fields (Address, Department, Business Unit, Pay Cycle, etc.) - Excluded to protect personally identifiable information (PII) and because the customer owns this data within their HR files.
- Fields that are no longer in an "Active" status.
Step 3: Identify Excluded Insights-Only Fields
In addition to the standard field exclusions, the data-sharing feature also does not include certain Insights-only fields. These fields are primarily used for analysis and reporting purposes within the CyberGrants platform.
The following Insights-only field types are NOT included in data sharing:
- Enriched Date fields (Year, Quarter, Month, etc.).
- Calculated Measures (Totals, Counts, Averages, Medians, etc.).
- Grouped Dimensions (Employee Tenure Tier, Employee Age Range, New vs Returning, etc.).
- Filter-only fields (Projected Pledge End Date, Hours to Dollars, etc.).
- Participation Fields (Active Employee Population, Participating Employees, Participation Rate %).
- Geocoding & Census Fields (MSA, Tract, Income Level, etc.).
- Internal CyberGrants Grantmaker Fields (Grantmaker Name, Active Flag, etc.).
Step 4: Understand Included Custom Fields
While the data-sharing feature excludes certain standard field types, it does include ALL of your organization's custom fields for both Grants and Employee Engagement, with the exception of the field types already not supported within Insights.
- Long Paragraph Fields (CLOB - Field Type ID 12).
- File Attachment Fields (BLOB - Field Type ID 7).
- Fields that are no longer in an "Active" status.
Step 5: Understand Automatic Updates for New Custom Fields
Any new custom fields that are created will automatically feed into the data-sharing feature, keeping your organization's data up-to-date and comprehensive, streamlining the process, and ensuring current shared data.
