Want to reuse a tile you’ve already built? The following video walks you through how to copy a tile between dashboards in Insights and keep your data aligned.
Insights dashboards allow users to visualize and analyze data through customizable tiles created from Explores. In some cases, you may want to reuse a tile you’ve already built by copying it to another dashboard, rather than recreating it from scratch. This capability is available to Insights Analysts, who can create, modify, and manage both Explores and dashboards.
Review the following instructions to learn how to copy a tile from one dashboard to another and ensure filters apply correctly in the new dashboard.
Step 1: Access the source dashboard
Begin by navigating to the Insights tab in Bonterra’s CyberGrants and opening the dashboard that contains the tile you want to copy.
Step 2: Open the tile in Explore
From the source dashboard, click the Explore from here icon in the top-right corner of the tile.
- This opens the tile’s underlying Explore, where you can view and edit to modify its configuration before saving it elsewhere.
- Enter the Explore and review its settings to confirm they match the data and visualization you want to copy.
Step 3: Save the Explore to another dashboard
Once in the Explore, save it to the target dashboard.
Step 4: Review filters in the target dashboard
For each existing dashboard filter, click the vertical ellipses and then Edit.
- Within the Tiles to Update tab for each, confirm that your new tile is included and being filtered as expected.
- The default setting for copied tiles is Do not filter, so you may need to manually update this to match the dashboard’s intended filtering behavior.
- When selecting a field to filter, choose the same option used for other tiles in the dashboard if you want to maintain consistency across all tiles.
Step 5: Make any needed edits and save
Once you’ve confirmed the filters, make any additional edits to the new tile if necessary.
- Adjust the title to align with the other tiles in the dashboard.
- You can also move and resize the tile as needed; it will appear at the bottom of the dashboard by default.
- Click Save in the dashboard editor to apply your changes.
- The copied tile will now appear in the target dashboard with the configured filters and display settings.
Key reminder:
When copying tiles, always verify that the Explore filters and dashboard filters align to ensure accurate, consistent results.
